We have SteadyPicks first college football bet of the 2023 season. USC is catching over 80% of the early tickets in this matchup against San Jose State. While USC should have no issues winning the game, we have some concerns about their ability to cover 31 points. This San Jose State football team is flying a bit under the radar. They were able to bring back 6th year senior QB Chevan Cordeiro. Some may remember Cordeiro from his time at Hawaii, but he transferred to San Jose State last season and had a fantastic year. Cordeiro had 32 total touchdowns last season and only threw 6 interceptions in 426 attempts. San Jose State also had a solid defense allowing an average of 22 points per game last season (30th in FBS). It’s also worth noting that USC had a decent amount of turnover on offense, including losing their top WR in Jordan Addison, who was a first round pick in the 2023 NFL draft. USC’s defense left a lot to be desired last season. While their defense is expected to be improved, it may take some time for this unit to gel. We will opt to take the 31 points with the road dogs. Our stake is a half unit.
