Now that the housekeeping is done, let's get to the good stuff.
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers +3
At the time of writing, this line has fluctuated between 3 and 3.5 since the line was set. This is great for bettors, as you will always be able to grab the best number, regardless of which side you're on. When we look at the betting percentages, we see the Chiefs receiving heavy public and sharp support on the number, getting 65% of the tickets and money. However, when we look at the moneyline, I see a different story. As is normal with Super Bowl games, the public loves to back the underdog on the money line. The Bucs are receiving roughly 60% of tickets and money on the money line. This section will be updated heading into the weekend, as the splits will likely change.
UPDATE 2/6 10am EST:
Across the market, we are seeing 3 at every book. This is very telling as the Chiefs are still seeing 65% of the money, yet the books are reluctant to move this line back to 3.5. Meanwhile, the Chiefs ML is going to start falling over the next 24 hours. We're hoping it can get to -150 range.
Read Between The Lines
I always find the Super Bowl the most interesting event in regards to line movements. This line is open and active for 2 full weeks, as sharps, pros, and joes start to make their wagers. I said this before the Championship games ended, but the only way to get any +EV on this game is to bet the line within minutes of opening. Now, as the line settles at 3, the number is as sharp as it's going to get.
Notable ATS and SU Trends
- Super Bowl Favorites are 34-19 SU and 25-25-1 ATS
- Over the last 13 years, the Super Bowl Dog is 9-4 ATS
- The SU Winner is 45-6-3 ATS (this is crazy)
Notable Over/Under Trends
- Super Bowl Overs are 27-25 all-time
- In the last 11 Super Bowls with totals over 50, the Under is 8-3
3 Tips to Help Bet The Super Bowl Like a Pro
1. Don't Bet Too Many Props
While Prop Bets are fun, it's important not to bet too many. Why? Because you'll essentially make your side and total bets irrelevant. Don't bet the coin flip, either. I know, we've all done it! But be a better bettor and stay away this year! When betting on props, be sure to monitor your bankroll, and set a limit on how many plays you'd like to do. Write them down, even, and make sure you aren't betting too many. Along with this, I'll mention the importance of monitoring the line movements of the props. Because the SportsBooks post so many, they rely on the sharp action to correct their lines. This is the best strategy for finding an edge in the Super Bowl. You can read the Daily Steady Report in our Blog/News section for a running list of our favorite prop bets.
2. Monitor Line Movements
This is key for betting on the Super Bowl, or any event for that matter. We constantly discuss line movements at SteadyPicks because it is the best indicator for where sharps, pros, and wise-guys are placing their wagers. As the spread will not likely move below the key number of 3, its best to monitor the ML movements. Typically, we see the public back the underdog on the ML heavily - we see this in SB55 as well. Keep a close eye on the Chiefs ML, as this will likely dip towards -150 or so, making it a great time to grab. Find your favorite live odds page, stay glued to it, and be strategic when placing your wagers.
3. Be A Contrarian
What do I mean by this? Remember - the Super Bowl is the heaviest bet event of the year, and it's not even close. These are the best times to be contrarian, or bet against the public. As we discussed before, you cannot blindly bet against the public money. However, it's more important in this game than any other. Find your favorite angles to fade the public. When betting props, always lean to the under/no's. Reason being is the public loves betting overs and yes's. As the weekend progresses, the lines will all start to shift upwards, leaving some extra value on unders and no's.
