Trevon Diggs To Win Defensive Player Of The Year (+750)
Quite frankly, these odds are very surprising considering the season that Trevon Diggs is having. Yesterday, Diggs recorded his 11th interception of the season. To understand the significance of reaching this mark, you have to look way back in history. The last time a player recorded 11 interceptions was in 1981 (40 years ago). Yes Micah Parsons and TJ Watt (the two current favorites for the award) are having phenomenal seasons as well. However, here are a few things to consider. With Micah Parsons, he is unquestionably deserving of this award regardless of his tenure in the league. However, he is a rookie, and there is a specific award for defensive rookie of the year. Micah Parsons will certainly win that, but you have to wonder if voters will side with one of the other candidates for DPOY knowing Micah Parsons will already be recognized for his achievements through the defensive rookie of the year award. For TJ Watt, if he breaks Michael Strahan's single season sack record (22.5), it will be hard not to give him this award. If he does not break it, that's when you can really start to make a strong argument for Trevon Diggs. The Cowboys defense has performed better than the Steelers, and if you strictly look at the history books, achieving 11 interceptions is much more rare than the 17.5 sacks that TJ Watt currently has. TJ Watt may add to his sack total, but Trevon Diggs will have the same opportunity to add to his interception total. We are going bold here, and rolling with a 2 unit bet that would net 15 units if it cashes.
