Let’s face it – betting is hard. How much do I bet? What if I really like a game? How can I be sure I’m betting enough money?
Some of the best handicappers in the industry will tell you that bankroll management, much like personal money management, is the most important concept to understand. We will review here in a few simple steps:
1.)
Determine your bankroll.
This amount should always be what you’re OK with losing, no matter what. For this example, let’s say your bankroll is $1,000.
2.) Determine what your ‘unit’ will be.
A unit is a universal term bettors can use regardless of their bankroll. We often discuss units when determining how confident we are in any particular game. 1 Unit should be roughly 1% of your bankroll. In this scenario, your unit would be $10. Now, if you were betting multiple games each day, you would want to place all bets at 1 unit. However, with the confidence of SteadyPicks systems, we recommend playing our picks for either 1 unit, 3 units or 5 units. Each pick we provide will have a recommended unit amount. On rare occasions when our systems absolutely LOVE a game, we do a Max Play Whale for 10 units. You must be consistent with your unit amounts!
3.)
Never dig yourself out of a hole.
At SteadyPicks, our systems are proven to have a positive ROI. After one or two losing days, you should never freak out the next day with a 10 unit, throw your bankroll into the wind type of play. Stick to the system. Stick to your unit amounts. This is the #1 mistake casual bettors make!
