The Philadelphia Phillies have put themselves in a tough spot after blowing a lead in Arizona last night. The Diamondbacks evened the series 2-2, and will have their ace Zac Gallen on the mound tonight in game 5. This is significant, because Zac Gallen has been phenomenal at home this season. Gallen went 12-3 with a 2.47 ERA in a 102 inning sample size at home in Arizona in 2023. He held a 4.42 ERA on the road. The Phillies did have success against Gallen in game 1 of this series, but that game was in Philadelphia. Tonight Gallen will be back on his home mound, where he performs best. Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler was the opposite of Gallen this season in terms of his home/road splits. He pitched better on the road, holding a 3.16 ERA in 102 road innings. The Phillies bullpen struggled yesterday (primarily Craig Kimbrel). That said, their bullpen has been very good over the larger sample size of the postseason. With this being a key game 5, with a day off after the game, both teams will have no hesitation to use their best pitching options in the later innings. Our wager is a half unit on under 8 runs to be scored.
