The Heisman trophy award is not typically won by wide receivers. There have only been 5 WRs to win in the history of the award. Most recently, DeVonta Smith won the award at Alabama in 2020 with 117 catches for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns. In the year prior to that Heisman winning season, Smith’s numbers looked almost identical to Marvin Harrison Jr.’s numbers last season (see below).

Many NFL scouts and GM’s have gone on record stating that Marvin Harrison Jr. would have been the top WR drafted if he was eligible to come out last season. He’s the most talented WR in college football, but he will have a new QB this season. Last season’s QB CJ Stroud is not the new franchise QB of the Houston Texans. Ohio State has plenty of highly recruited players at the QB position, and we expect whoever wins this QB job to target Marvin Harrison Jr. early and often. At 25-1 odds, why not take a flier on one of the elite skill players in the nation.

This pick comes with some risk, as the highly touted Arch Manning will arrive on the Texas campus this season. Some believe that Arch will have a real chance at winning this job as a freshman. However, it’s important to remember that Quinn Ewers was viewed as the #1 overall player in his recruiting class. Ewers is extremely talented, he displayed flashes of Heisman potential last season. The Longhorns have an elite WR corps, and a fantastic coach in Steve Sarkisian who has loaded this offense with talent. If Ewers can hold the job and stay healthy, we anticipate big numbers for the red shirt sophomore.
