Two College Football Teams To Keep An Eye On In 2023
Penn State (+2500)
This 2023 Penn State team will return 14 starters from last season. The Nittany Lions had the #6 overall recruiting class in 2022 including three 5-star recruits, and two breakout RB’s in Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen. As freshman, Singleton and Allen rushed for 1,928 yards and 22 touchdowns. The Penn State offensive line is a veteran group led by Olumuyiwa Fashanu (projected 1st round pick). Singleton and Allen should have a lot of running room this season. The biggest question mark on this Penn State team is at the QB position. Sophomore Drew Allar was a 5-star recruit, and looks to be one of the better QB prospects that has come through the Penn State program. Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz has a lot of talent to work with, including breakout freshman outside linebacker Abdul Carter (6.5 sacks last season), and the return of Curtis Jacobs who many thought would be headed to the NFL. Defensive back Kalen King led the conference in passes defended last year (21). This Nittany Lions team is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. At 25-1, we see value in taking a small flier on Penn State.

LSU (+1400)
Brian Kelly’s second season at LSU looks very promising. Starting on the offensive side of the ball, the Tigers will return their entire offensive line. This team has two fantastic QB’s in Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier. Anytime you make a wager in the futures market, it’s important to consider the depth of a team. With injuries being a big part of football, it’s always nice to have an insurance policy at the quarterback position. The Tigers also return one of the best tight ends in the nation (Mason Taylor). LSU’s defense features breakout freshman Harold Perkins Jr. (7.5 sacks last season). The Tigers landed Omar Speights from Oregon State via the transfer portal, and also rebuilt their secondary through the portal. Texas A&M cornerback Denver Harris was ranked as the #2 overall player in the transfer portal amongst any position. Landing Harris should provide a nice boost to this secondary. LSU opens up on the road against Florida State, where they are currently listed as a 3 point road favorite. The Tigers beat Alabama in Death Valley last season, but they will play Bama on the road this season. We anticipate one of the most exciting games of the season in that matchup. This LSU team is well balanced, well coached, and has one of the lighter schedules within the SEC. We can get behind a small wager at these 14-1 odds.
