Rays vs. Yankees 1:40pm
Rays Moneyline (-120)
We are going to side with the Rays in this divisional matchup. The Yankees gave Carlos Rodon a 6 year, 162 million dollar contract in the offseason. Let’s just say things have not gone well for the Yankees early in this deal. In the 7 games that Rodon has started this season, the Yankees have gone 1-6 in those games. His ERA is north of 6, and his FIP is north of 7. Rodon has allowed 5 home runs in 12.2 innings pitched in August. Until he regains his form, Carlos Rodon is not a pitcher that we feel comfortable putting our money behind. On the Rays side of this starting pitching matchup is Zack Littell. The righty has pitched both in relief and in a starting role this season, but has performed better as starter. In 4 starts this month, Littell holds a 3.52 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. This is far better than his opposing pitchers current metrics. The Rays offense ranks within the top 10 in majority of hitting metrics against left handed pitching (Rodon is a lefty). Our wager is a half unit on the Rays moneyline.

Padres @ Brewers 2:10pm
Padres Moneyline (-116)
Since returning to the Padres this month, Michael Wacha has gone 2-0 with a 0.87 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. He recorded 7 strikeouts against the Marlins in his most recent start, and pitched 5 shutout innings against the Orioles prior to that. Brewers starter Adrian Houser has been solid this season. However, his numbers at home in Milwaukee are not great. Houser holds an ERA north of 4, and a 1.42 WHIP. We give a slight edge to the Padres both in the starting pitching matchup, and offensively. Both bullpens have performed at a similar rate over the last 30 days. At this (-116) price, we will roll with a half unit bet on the Padres moneyline.

Rangers @ Twins 2:10pm
Rangers Moneyline (-110)
Rangers starter Jordan Montgomery, and Twins starter Bailey Ober, are trending in complete opposite directions. Montgomery holds a 1.73 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 26 innings pitched throughout August. Ober holds a 4.50 ERA, and an alarming 1.50 WHIP in August. From April through July, Bailey Ober’s WHIP held firm around 1.05. The more alarming aspect of Ober’s dip in production is that he has been fantastic at limiting walks, but he’s walked 3 hitters in back to back starts. He only had 3 strikeouts in his last start. The Rangers lineup is a brutal one to face for a struggling right handed pitcher. Our wager is on the Rangers moneyline.
