Steelers +3 (-109)
It’s hard to back this Pittsburgh Steelers team right now. They are struggling on both sides of the ball. Pittsburgh is on their 3rd string QB with Mason Rudolph. We don’t anticipate a huge drop off from Trubisky to Rudolph. It’s very possible that Rudolph may actually be an upgrade, as he’s been in this Steelers offense for many years. The one area of the Steelers offense that has been effective is their rushing attack behind Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris. Pittsburgh ranks top 15 in the NFL in rushing yards per game, yards per carry, and runs of 10+ yards. The Bengals defense ranks at the bottom of the NFL defending the run. We expect the Steelers to have a ground and pound gameplan, and we anticipate them to have success running the ball. The Bengals lost a key player on their defensive line (DJ Reeder), and their offense lost Ja'marr Chase. Both have already been ruled out for this game. The Steelers will be missing their star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Pittsburgh is extremely thin at the safety position heading into this game which is a slight cause for concern. Patrick Peterson is expected to move to free safety. He’s recorded about 70 snaps at safety this season. Pittsburgh’s defensive line is healthy and should be able to generate a lot of pressure on Bengals backup QB Jake Browning. To this point, Browning has performed well when pressured. However, the sample size is still very small. He’s only played 1 road game since filling in for Burrow. This is a late December game in Pittsburgh. The terrible towels will be swinging. TJ Watt and company will without a doubt be looking to hand Jake Browning his welcome to the NFL moment. Our wager is a half unit on the Steelers +3.
