MLB Power Rankings
By Long Ball Picks
05/11/21
The Royals are who we thought they were! Kansas City has lost 8 straight games, and are now in 3 rd place in the AL
Central. Their start to the season was fun, but it seemed inevitable that they would return to the bottom half of
the division eventually. The San Francisco Giants, however, might not be who we thought they were! The Giants
still hold the NL West lead ahead of the Dodgers and Padres, and they’ve been a pleasant surprise! Can they keep
this up? We’re not expecting them to, as you’ll find them still in the bottom half of our power ratings. The Yankees,
White Sox, Mets, and Cardinals have all started to play better baseball as of late, and all of them (besides the
already 3 rd -ranked Yankees) climbed the ratings this week. It certainly feels weird to leave the Dodgers at the top of
the list after their horrendous last 2 weeks, but we still believe they are the most talented team in the MLB and we
expect them to turn things around in the coming weeks. Let’s take a look at the current power ratings as we head
towards the dog days of summer…

Key Takeaways:
  • The White Sox took the top spot in the AL Central from the Kansas City Royals, and it’s not crazy to think they might hold that spot for the foreseeable future.
  • On a related note, what’s going on with the Twins? They’re 6-11 at home and are already 7 games behind the Chicago White Sox.
  • The Yankees have finally put things together, and they’re now just 3 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East.
  • The Detroit Tigers are back on the bottom line with their -68 run differential through 34 games. We don’t expect them to improve much this season.
  • The Cardinals have taken hold of the NL Central behind a hot start to the month of May.
  • The Mets have a slight lead over the NL East, but it’s still up for grabs between the Mets, Phillies, and Braves.
Upcoming Story Lines:
  • The Seattle Mariners have announced plans to call up top-prospect Jarred Kelenic this week!
  • Can the Twins start to claw their way back? They get 3 vs the White Sox and 4 vs the struggling Royals this week.
  • The Astros and Angels play a 3 game series in Houston as the AL West division heats up.
  • The Dodgers look to turn things around as they battle the Mariners and Marlins this week.
  • The Rays will try to make some noise in New York this week as they play 3 at the Yankees and 3 at the Mets.
