North Carolina vs. Oregon 8:00pm
North Carolina +14 (-110)
We see value here getting 14 points behind a very talented QB, and a good offense. If you aren’t familiar with North Carolina QB Drake Maye, make yourself familiar with this name. Drake Maye is regarded by many NFL scouts as the favorite to be the #1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The 2024 Draft is expected to feature USC Heisman trophy winner Caleb WIlliams. We know how talented of a QB Caleb Williams is, so the fact that some grade Drake Maye higher should paint a strong picture of what North Carolina has landed at the QB position. Before we hype Drake Maye too much, let’s also note that North Carolina has lost their last 3 games. Drake Maye didn’t play very well in any of those, he threw at least 1 interception in all 3 losses. The good news for North Carolina is that Oregon has roughly 8 players who entered the transfer portal, and 2 other starters who opted out (both on defense). Oregon’s offensive coordinator took the head coaching job at Arizona State, so he will miss this game as well. North Carolina had their best WR opt out of this game (Josh Downs), and about 5 additional players (one of which being Drake Maye’s backup). UNC's offensive coordinator also took a new job, so both teams will be missing their OC's. All things considered, North Carolina should be able to move the ball on Oregon’s defense which ranks outside of the top 50 in the nation. Whether it’s a close game throughout, or a backdoor cover, we like UNC’s odds to avoid another blowout and keep this game within a couple of scores. Our bet is 1 unit on the Tar Heels to cover.
