Diontae Johnson had one of the most interesting seasons in wide receiver history in 2022. Johnson had 147 targets, catching 86 passes for 882 yards. This was Johnson’s worst yardage total since his rookie season. The bizarre part about his 2022 campaign was that Johnson did not catch a single touchdown (0). He became the first player in NFL history to catch 85 or more passes without recording a touchdown.
Johnson was targeted 21 times within the 20 yard line. He caught 8 of those red zone targets. Diontae was targeted 5 times within the 10 yard line, catching 2 of those. Despite the touches and targets being there, Johnson just couldn't seem to break one in.
Prior to 2022, Johnson had 20 receiving touchdowns through his first 3 seasons (2019-2021). Johnson never had less than 5 TD’s in those three seasons (5, 7, 8). His touchdown props are not currently available on any sportsbooks, making it difficult to take advantage of this information in the betting market.
For those who have fantasy football drafts coming up, be sure to keep a close eye on Johnson. The 5th year wide receiver should see a significant increase in touchdowns this season.
